When women get involved in mission and service ministries, there are so many ways to serve God’s world! Opportunities for women to serve the Lord can be encouraged through women’s ministries in a congregation.
Plan educational opportunities on issues of our day, especially focusing on those in which women can become directly involved in addressing problems (through advocacy, further education, hands-on activity, prayer, etc); choose one or two special concerns to focus on over a longer period of time, exploring them from many angles and linking them into a variety of areas of your ministry; use the resources available for designated Mission Priorities.
Invite mission speakers from your region or the American Baptist Mission Center (Educational, National and International Ministries) for women’s events or congregational events. Arrange for such speakers through your regional ABC office; invite other groups/churches to join you for these events in order to provide better stewardship of our denominational human and financial resources.
Create a “school of missions” for a special women’s event or, better yet, for the entire congregation (focus on a particular mission concern or geographical area over a period of several weeks, with a variety of activities that lift up the needs and potential involvement in that area).
Create a “Mission Fair” for the congregation, or on a regional level. Get different groups involved in planning “booths” based on different mission issues or geographical areas, and encourage creativity in making the issues known.
Participate in and promote annual American Baptist mission offerings; utilize denominational resources and study materials available for these offerings; promote in women’s newsletters and church newsletters the ways in which individuals may donate to special offerings online.
