2011 Mission Encounter to Africa

 Footsteps in Africa
Follow in the footsteps of hundreds of missionaries!

2011 Mission Encounter to Africa
Co-sponsored by AB Women’s Ministries and International Ministries

April 21 – May 6, 2011

 Tentative cost: $4,500

Today’s missionaries are following in the footsteps of their predecessors with innovative ministries. You’ll learn about AIDS prevention & education programs, see medical ministries where your White Cross supplies relieve suffering, and visit the Mitendi Center made possible by funding from AB Women’s Ministries.

 Gathering Location

American Baptist women participating on this trip will gather in Jamaica, New York (JFK Airport) to begin their adventure together on April 20, 2011. The encounter will depart from JFK Airport on April 21st to Durban, South Africa.

 You will travel to:

Durban, South Africa How would your church respond if a quarter of the people in your town had HIV/AIDS? Missionaries Rick and Anita Gutierrez train church-based health builders to establish bridges of healing in Jesus’ name. You’ll meet the women of the Baptist Mission of South Africa (BMSA) and Baptist Association of South Africa (BASA). You may even do some hands-on ministry to children affected by HIV/AIDS.

Democratic Republic of the Congo — There’s a grave new trend on the streets of Kinshasa — young women are being trafficked into a life of prostitution. Missionary Jill Lowery will take you on a tour of the Mitendi Center that’s bringing hope to these women. The Congolese Baptist women teach sewing, health & hygiene and other job skills at Mitendi. You’ll visit medical clinics, see your White Cross supplies hard at work, and talk with missionaries Ann and Bill Clemmer, and Katherine and Wayne Niles. Miriam Noyes will share about the successful Adult Literacy program that is spreading far beyond Kinshasa.
You may choose a side trip to Vanga Christian Hospital or Kikongo Christian Hospital. You will need to fly to either location and stay overnight for an additional cost of $350 to you.

You will need to have a United States passport valid three months after the date our trip ends. Thus, it needs to be valid through August 6, 2011. If you don’t have a valid passport, you will have time to apply for one after you are accepted to participate in the trip.

Cancellation Policy
After you have been accepted for the trip, and you find you must cancel your participation you must do so in writing to Phyllis Brown, Business Manager, AB Women’s Ministries office, P.O. Box 851, Valley Forge, PA 19482-0851. Fax: 610-768-2286. Cancellation refunds will depend primarily upon refund restrictions of deposits paid on your behalf that we are unable to recover as outlined below.
If written notification is received after April 30, 2010, AB Women's Ministries will refund the money you have paid, less a $500 cancellation fee and any charges and fees already paid on your behalf that we cannot recover.
If you secure an acceptable substitute, any additional charges for transfers and changes are applicable and due from your substitute, in addition to her application fee and scheduled payments.
The amount you forfeit could result in a rather sizeable amount, so we recommend trip cancellation insurance (at your expense) to protect you from those unexpected family emergencies or illnesses that would cause a cancellation.
